I went to look at my MediaMax account and I found out about the Link Up site that replaced it. So far, no files have been transferred from Media Max. I sent Link Up an email expressing my desire to cancel, but I don't know what I can expect. The payment is not via PayPal - it is an auto payment from my bank.

Have you tried logging into Linkup yet itself?

http://www.thelinkup.com./

The Blog states that migration of files is underway and that is true. Some of mine have made the move others (hopefully) are in transit.

I have succesfully uploaded to the new system and created my first folder. I have decided for future reference to add in brackets after the title the month and year the episodes were upped. This will mean I can track whether Link-up is performing in respect of new files.

Folder Titled as - 'USA The Tenth Man (Upped 052008)'

If others did this as a standard we could have more confidence in future sharing using the system. What do you think?

Frankly the rest of my folders are sitting in a big heap called Mediamax on the new system and I shall only use them to see if they will download. Any new sharing will be purely of new uploads and given time I will up again a lot of the British Series.

For anyone wishing to upload there is an installer on their BLog site now available but it will do an entire folder. Bare in mind though that uploading with a large transition on their part going on may have problems on a large set.......

Hope that helps update you

Ian

About the "Windows Uploader"
available here http://www.thelinkup.com/# or here http://tlublog.blogspot.com/
It won't do a folder, But

With it you can create and or designate the folder you want to upload to, with the "Change Folder" button
It works pretty good so far
Files show up almost instantly

and you can do more than 1 file at a time.

After you've browsed to the folder you are uploading from with the "Add File" button
Just hold down the "crtl" key and highlight all the files you want to upload.
Click the "Open" button and it loads all selected files and upload starts instantly.

And gives you a progress bar of current file and of all files in current upload.

Downloading seems to work with any download manager.

If things work like they appear, we may be back to the one click download a bunch of files way of trading.

Ian...were all your files, that got transferred to Linkup, done in 2007? I just checked my account, and nothing has shown up yet. As I stated, previously, I doubt I will ever see anything...since most of mine were done before 2007. Are they just letting those files go by the wayside?? I'm sure a LOT of us fit this category.

They are just transfering files "You" uploaded to your acct. after that 2007 date.

Nothing sent to your acct. by others will be transfered over.
Most of us guit uploading before that date and will have nothing transfered.

As near as I can tell, if you downloaded it and re uploaded it with out changing the id tagging it wasn't really your upload and won't transfer.

And everything uploaded before that date is being deleted, Their way of cleaning house.

My Account is totally empty, Many T-Bytes gone, but they weren't really available before either.

I guess I will play around with it for a while before making a final decision.

I emailed them again about cancelling but no one answered. They haven't taken a payment in May so maybe when the demise of MediaMax occurred, the monthly auto payment also stopped.

Nothing was ever transferred anyway. Luckily, much of it is on mp3 discs in my collection. There are many things I will miss, however.

Is there an alternative to MediaMax other than Link Up that works? I am a little computer challenged, so I need to find something as simple as MediaMax.
Thanks, John

Not that we have found.

All the other file sharing sites we've tried only allow 1 file to be downloaded at a time.

TheLinkUp looks like it's as close to streamload as we're going to find.

While it's still in beta mode, we can only hope they add the whole folder option.

So far it's uploading good (not real fast 30bps)

LinkUp is now defunct - as of August 8th, that is. I received an email from them today. I was informed that I must download any files by then or all will be lost. I never got them from MediaMax in the first place. (sigh)

Barjo...it also said there would be no further action on our credit cards. I wonder if I will get a refund for the "unused portion" of same?? Or...perhaps I should say "unable to use portion". I paid them for a whole year!

That's a great question, Gil. Fortunately, I was not a paying member yet.
