Sorry to always be upset with Multiply, but this will be the last time. It is a has been. The only person who can download anything from there as far as I can tell is the person who did the uploading. I don't see how it makes any sense, so I will most likely delete my Multiply account. If there is anything anyone wants from there, please let me know and I will upload it elsewhere.

Shirley you can still download from there with orbit downloader>
1. start orbit downloader
2. go to page you want to download from
3. right click on page and chose grab video
4. then start each file you want in the player for a few seconds and then the mp3 will show up in grab window under music
5. check mark the files you want to download in grab and then press download at the bottom of the grab window and they will start downloading in orbit.
6. only downside it downloads all files you checkmark at the same time so probably better do them a few at a time or they would really be slow.
You should be able to download video the same way by choosing the video tab in grab
Unplug in firefox will only bring up the playlist but I suspect it may get an upgrade soon. |

The orbit downloader does not work on Multiply anymore. A "new feature" ended all of the downloading today. Anyone who visits my site can listen now. I guess someone thinks this is an improvement.

Shirlety:
I started experimenting with Humyo.com today after Multiply's latest stunt. There is a lot of potential here. The free account allows 25 gigs of storage. It allows for uploads of entire folders. Anyone you choose to add as a "friend" has the priviledge of seeing any and all files which you choose to "share." The "friend" can then copy any file or an entire folder to his or her own account. This is an improvement on the old Streamload procedure, when Streamload actually worked. With a free account you can download your files but it is basically downloading one file at a time. A Desktop Client application is available if a subscriber goes for a premium account. With the client you can easily and quickly download a large number of files. Humyo does allow a 14 day trial of the desktop client so "freeloaders" have an opportunity to test it out.
I have uploaded a few items to Humyo. The following link will allow non-subscribers with limited access. You will be able to see what is there and even play a file. http://www.humyo.com/5311533-170659007
Anyone who signs up to test out Humyo, if you use the following link, you can request to be added to my "friends" network and you will have full access to all shared files: http://www.humyo.com/J/5311533
I'll be interested in any feedback you might have.

Looks interesting!
I have just tried transferring one of your folders to my folder and it moved instantly. I am guessing it works th same way that SL did in that it copies "virtually" but doesn't actually give you a second "real" copy? (if that makes sense) |

I know what you mean. I suspect that is the case but I'm not sure. So far it seems a simple, fast, "no fills" site. The desktop client allows you to download entire folders, but the client is part of the premium upgrade; however, it is available for a 14 day trial period to freeloaders.

I'm waiting to see which Blog site you all select then I'll move out of Multiply. However on the next site I shall use Rapidshare links as frankly I am fed up with changing horses. For the small annual cost it will make a lot more sense it also means I can actually offer probably a lot more material for download.

| I'd go with rapidshare too, Ian. I have been using it for some months now and for me, it has been very reliable. |

At present I shall stay quiet on the blogs as I have some big projects to finish this year which my health now dictates must be completed. Next year I intend going back to just being an otr collector as I need to rest and spend more time enjoying what I have. However I dont intend to totally dissappear.
It would be great if we could see the present OTR forums develop into a public blog frontage as frankly the layouts and information on many are excellent. I looked at one new one yesterday (no names) and I couldnt read the tiny print on such a dark background. With so many people with a variety of disabilities who share this hobby it would be good if people got the message that red print on black back grounds is really naff! I guess though that when you remember to spam attacks we went through at OTRtnt, and the sexual comentaries some of the ladies suffered on multiply you can understand why forums with controlled memberships still have their uses.
What is excellent is the continuing expansion of OTR material now on offer even if we cant whizz it round the planet quite so well as we did with Streamload.
Clearly mp3s like wav files before them will have a limited existence as the web evolves and new more efficient methods of storage become available. How long will it be before we have 3dimensional pc projections?
16 years ago we bought my son a new pc with a 500mb hard drive - the bees knees we thought. I was offered a 1tb hard drive the other day for less than I paid for that pc.....?
My other desire is to see more people sharing material. A lot of people think that they have nothing to share because the Ian's of this world already got it or whatever? Ok maybe the Ian's have got it but they gained it by offering shows and trading, making lots of great new friends all the way.
I'd have a 'one offer a month' rule minimum if I could for every member - would make for a very exciting forum.....
Ian (Thinks he would have made a great dictator....!) _________________ .

Gary....I'm using my laptop, right now, since my dt is still in the repair shop. I tried to copy the "Big Story" folder to the external hd, I have attached to the dt, but the copy window doesn't give me the choice of copying the files there. The only folder that shows up, is on my laptop, and is called "My Files". How do I get my external (drive G) to show up in the copy window? _________________ Gil |

Gil:
So, if I understand correctly, the external drive "G" is not appearing as an available storage device on your laptop? Have you tried unplugging and replugging the drive? If that doesn't work try shutting down the laptop completely and then powering up again with the external drive still attached. If that doesn't work we can pursue some other things over in the "Tips, Advice, How Do I?" area. I've had "invisible" drives in the past and they can be incredibly frustrating until they are resolved.

Gary....i copied some of your humyo folders to my humyo account. The transition was very smooth. However, I noticed that my drive space is being used up quite rapidly, with only 25 gbs of storage. If we all start using
the service, how are we going to make sure that we don't use up all our space, in a short length of time? Somewhere, along the way, those folders will have to be moved to another location, to make room for more. Any thoughts on this? _________________ Gil |

Gil:
That is why I thought a spreadsheet listing who had what would be a worthwhile project. The more people who joined together the more space we would have available. Ten people with 25 gigs each would be 250 gigs; 20 people in a network 500 gigs, etc. The spreadsheet would allow us to avoid too much duplication. We would be able to quickly know if something was already online and available. If someone needed a file it would be available to be copied to our own account. We could download the file then delete the copy from our Humyo account.
